There’s so much speculation about Jiah Khan’s ouster from Ken Ghosh’s Yahoo that a new reason that our source has revealed amuses us. According to our source, it is Shahid’s growing manliness that resulted in Jiah being ousted and Genelia D’Souza stepping in. And before you get us wrong, Shahid now insists that in all his films, he must play a man, and not the boy-next-door he’s been all this while.

Our source says, “Yahoo was originally about Shahid playing a struggling dancer and a bunch of kids supporting him. The focus was on Shahid’s interaction with the kids. But later they realised that it wasn’t Shahid’s cup of tea to work with children. His film Vah! Life Ho Toh Aisi (2005) flopped terribly at the box-office and his next, Ahmed Khan’s Paathshala also involves some child actors.”

“And getting out of this boyish mould is what Shahid is looking at right now. With Kaminay opposite Priyanka Chopra waiting for release, Shahid wants to ensure that he doesn’t regress into the boy bracket. Besides, the way Yahoo was shaping up, it only accentuated Shahid’s boyish traits and his romance with Jiah came out immaturely,” our source adds.

Jiah Khan may be out of UTV Motion Pictures’ “Yahoo”, but the young actress has quite a few reasons to cheer. Not only has she been roped in for a separate two-film deal by the same production house, she has also signed a three-film contract with “Ghajini” producer Madhu Mantena.

“I think I owe her that,” said Mantena. “Specially after the way she has been treated.”

Things didn’t work out between UTV and Jiah as it was felt that she didn’t suit the character in “Yahoo” opposite Shahid Kapur.

“God has a unique way of evening things out. I must admit I was very low after what happened. When Madhu’s call came it was like a sign from heaven,” said Jiah.

The actress has met up with the producer and one of the films that she has apparently been signed on for is the much talked-about sequel to “Ghajini”, the action hit that had Aamir Khan in the lead.

But Jiah does not want to reveal much at this early stage.

Fresh from the triumph of Aamir Khan’s 200-crores Ghajini, British actress Jiah Khan is now working hard on Yahoo with Shahid Kapur and – no mean dancer herself – has been raving about his dancing. In the movie, Shahid is seen practicing a form of urban dance called krumping. Justin Timberlake’s choreographer, Marty Kudelka, had been roped in to teach him the steps. “I remember the first day of rehearsals with Justin’s choreographer Marty,” says Shahid, “Suddenly I started getting sweaty hands and became nervous. I was feeling that it’s very nice to see the videos of people and say that we too can dance like them. But when you actually get down to doing it, it does make you feel a little nervous.”

Jiah is a committed member of PETA and has been campaigning against the use of glass-coated manja used in the strings of traditional kites in India. When the manja falls on trees and poles, birds get tangled up in it and it is said that thousands suffer from cut wings every year.

Jiah Khan is supporting what some might consider a slightly unusual cause – she wants a ban on glass-coated manja (string) used for kite flying to avoid hurting birds.

“Glass-coated manja (string) is a public health hazard and causes an excruciating death for birds. We’re asking participants of kite flying competitions to immediately stop using it and to conduct their sport in a way that isn’t deadly to humans and wildlife,” Jiah said in a press statement.

Jiah will be seen in a People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ad, dressed as a wounded bird wrapped in kite string. The tagline of the ad is “Cut the glass-coated manja (string), not birds’ wings”.

Ace photographer Farrokh Chothia shot the ad and its release coincides with the festival of Makar Sankranti, when kites are traditionally flown.
