Getting slapped was humiliating - Preity
She’s already bagged an award for her power-packed performance as a battered wife in “Heaven On Earth”, but Bollywood star Preity Zinta says she was humiliated when co-star Vansh Bhardwaj, who plays her abusive husband, slapped her while shooting a scene.
“When we were shooting the film, there was a scene where my co-star had to slap me and, of course, it was a mistake as he took one step forward and actually went smack across my face. It was the most humiliating experience of my life because everyone saw me getting slapped,” Preity told IANS in an interview.
Preity got the Silver Hugo Award for best actress in the Feature Film Competition section at the 44th Chicago International Film Festival Oct 29.
The mishap on the sets of director Deepa Mehta’s film brought Preity closer to reality and made her understand the character better.
“It changed my whole perception towards my role and I realised that it’s so terrible to strip a woman of her spirit. It’s better to die than to let your spirit die. This film took me to another zone; it just shattered me because I am someone who would immediately stand up for myself,” she said.

Preity Zinta wins Best Actress at Chicago International Film Festival
Preity Zinta is the second Indian actress to ever win an award at the Chicago International Film Festival. After winning accolades at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, Preity’s risk in taking on a role like Chand in Heaven on Earth has definitely payed off.
“I am so happy and excited. I’m going to have a blissfully debauched celebration this evening. It was my director Deepa Mehta who informed me on Saturday afternoon that I had won. Neither Deepa nor I could go to Chicago, I’m thrilled that I’ve done it without any lobbying,” she excitedly told Subhash K. Jha.
Director Deepa Mehta is equally thrilled and describes Preity as ‘luminous’ in the film. Mehta is currently promoting her film in Canada as the film released this past Friday to great reviews.

I and Shiney are not the best of friends: Preity Zinta
Preity Zinta is known for being very clear and vocal about her opinions. This straightforward Bollywood actor has now made her views on actor Shiney Ahuja public, and they are not exactly full of warmth!
Preity’s words make it clear that there is not much love lost between these Bollywood actors.
“Shiney and I are not the best of friends! He’s not exactly a Shah Rukh, Salman, Hrithik or Abhishek for me. I’ve worked in so many films with these guys, and we share such camaraderie that it’s not unusual that I drop into their homes, chat up with their wives… Well, I don’t share that relationship with Shiney. That’s all there is to it, really!” Preity made it clear.
Some news of a spat between the two was abuzz, but the confirmation came only when Preity spoke about Shiney in these terms. She went on to add, ” He certainly won’t be seen at a party thrown by me!”
This certainly leaves no doubts about the kind of vibes coursing between them! Watch out Shiney, your stars are shining bright, but rubbing this outspoken queen of Bollywood the wrong way doesn’t augur well!
Preity enjoyed her first Grand Prix
Preity Zinta, who is gearing up for her next release Heroes, has become a sports fan and says she had the time of her life at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore.
“Ness (Wadia) and I had the best evening of our life - all right, one of the best,” Preity gushed. “It was the first ever Grand Prix in the night and, boy, were we happy to be there! But I was exhausted. It went on till the wee hours,” said Preity, who was there for the event last week.
This wasn’t Preity’s first Grand Prix.
“It was my third Grand Prix. I attended one in Spain and the other in Melbourne. Our very special trip to the first nocturnal Grand Prix was arranged by Mr. B.S. Ong - he was one of the chief organisers and one of the big boys in Singapore. He’s like the king and he isn’t even a Sinngh, ha ha.
“We had a rocking time. Regulars at the Grand Prix say it was one of the best organised Grand Prixs of all times.”
Preity says there were lots of people from India.

Salman is the real Singh - Preity
“The story of two youngsters who have the time to follow fashion trends, live the good life and waste precious hours too. These youngsters set out on a journey through India and come across different people in different parts of the country who act as an inspiration for them,” says Preity Zinta gravely. That’s what her latest film, Heroes is all about, she says. The film is a multi-starrer with a cast that includes Preity and Salman Khan, Sohail, Khan, Vatsal Seth, Amrita Arora, Mithun Chakraborty, Sunny and Bobby Deol among others.
Apparently, each of these stars has a story of their own in the film, so which story according to Preity is the most interesting? “Salman and mine, of course,” she says smiling mischievously. “It was a lot of fun sitting under trees, plucking mangoes, milking cows and chasing goats,” she says about her shooting experience. The film comes across as patriotic, so is there a message for the youth? “Absolutely not. I find films that lecture the most boring. I will never do a film that lectures. Read more

Preity Zinta at Toronto Film Festival
Preity Zinta sizzled in red on the red-carpet of the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival, where her forthcoming film Heaven On Earth was premiered.
The movie is directed by Mira Nair of the Fire, Water, Earth Trilogy fame.
The film revolves around a Punjabi woman, played by Zinta, who moves from India to Canada after marrying an NRI, only to become a victim of domestic violence at the hands of an abusive husband.
It is said to be inspired partly by Roddy Doyle’s novel ‘The Woman who Walked into Doors’ and partly by a woman Mehta met in Edmonton who’d been abused for nine years before leaving her husband and joining the police force,

We’re not pointing fingers, we just want people to accept that there are such problems in the world and we need to do something to make it better,” Zinta said.
